Jeff began his underwater photography shortly after moving to Marco Island in 1992. His love of scuba diving and passion for the natural beauty of the underwater world was one of the primary reasons for moving to Marco Island. This life long quest to explore and photograph the oceans wonders was fed by watching hundreds of hours of television specials produced by Jacques Cousteau and reading everything written by him and other early underwater explorers.
His formal training began in May of 1998 where he completed a six week Resort Operations Specialist class at ProDive in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. This training enabled Jeff to progress frome a PADI Divemaster to a Master Scuba Diver Trainer which allowed him to teach diving to anyone from the age of five years old on up and to certify them as Open Water Divers ( after they turn ten ! ). He can also train divers in over twenty diving specialities including PADI's Underwater Photographer and others thru Divemaster. Since he began teaching diving in 1998 he has introduced or certified over 1500 people to diving and continues to teach two days a week ( or more ) at four resorts on Marco Island, Fl. The rest of his time is spent on his underwater images, taking pictures, and exhibiting in art shows. A large part of his work was shot in Florida, with some of it coming from the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Bonaire.
Jeff saw Jacques Cousteau in person a year before he died, but did not get to meet him, and was quite disappointed. Since then he has meet and talked to Cousteau's grandson and son Jean-Michel who are both active in the preservation of our planet and its oceans. After their meetings he came away with the belief that as divers and Instructors it is our duty to share the wonders of the underwater world with everyone we meet, if not thru taking them diving, then showing them pictures of it beauty !! We must educate everyone on the decline of our coral reefs, marine fish, mammals, and the water quality of our oceans. For surely if our fish, marine life and oceans were to die, we would most likely follow shortly after.
Jeff and his wife Sherry are taking photos underwater and teaching others to dive , and they are trying to do their part in sharing the beauty of the oceans with everyone they meet!
